I don’t believe that most Americans realize just how easily their communications could be disrupted, should someone in control of government decree it necessary:
No landline phones
No cell phones (even easier than landlines)
No texting, audio, or video files
No internet communications
No social media
No digital communication AT ALL
What communications would that be?
UHF, VHF, HF, many of the ‘low power, less monitored’ frequencies, CW (what non-operators call Morse Code), GMRS, and FRS.
Any of these could be set up in a mobile format, designed to send their message quickly, disengage, and get out of the area before the government could respond.
Now, many operators, including me, are older - 60+. That’s not necessarily a disadvantage:
We’re old, ornery, and not afraid to die
Some of have gone through combat, and still have that mentality
Post-menopausal women are Hell-on-Wheels - we aren’t afraid of much, will risk death just to spite someone, and you just can’t shut us up
Every older operator taking on the responsibility of Communications frees up a younger person for more physical Resistance
We have the time to get good at things, money to fund it, and the connections to make it happen
