Let me put my bias right here up front.
I think the creation of the Dept. of Education was a HUGE mistake, as it has usurped the individual states’ authority and responsibility for determining how to address education funding and requirements in that state.
Furthermore, many schools have had to ADD additional administrative staff - often the most highly paid in the system - to satisfy the federal governments directives. That’s money that does NOT go to classrooms. That’s people whose sole purpose is to work to implement the federal government’s agenda, paid for by the citizens of the state.
I hate to tell you of the MANY times, as a teacher, that I was forced to attend a mind-numbing lecture on topics that had NO RELATION to my needs as a teacher, nor to any benefit of the students, all to satisfy the power-hungry representative of the Dept. of Education’s directives, and justify their inflated salary.
So, yeah, I’m somewhat biased AGAINST the Department’s continued existence.
I believe it is unconstitutional under the tenth amendment, which I think of as the "stay in your lane" rule. The states are supposed to do what the states are supposed to do, and the fed gov is supposed to do what it's supposed to do, and that does not include education. And it does undermine the power of the local school boards, and as we know, parents attending local school board meetings have been called domestic terrorists. A federal government is going to want to push for communism since that is the ultimate in federal power, and they will push for an education system that indoctrinates appropriately.
