The Unstudied Effect of Interfering With Female Hormones
Are They Re-Wiring Women for Failure as a Mother?
This study would seem to indicate that more research is needed. Until that happens, women would be well-advised to avoid hormonal contraceptives, which include:
Birth control pills
Long-Acting implants
Morning After chemicals
IUDs with hormonal elements embedded
Look, I get it - not every pregnancy is desired. Many are even initially thought of as “Oh, Crap!”, rather than “Oh, Goody!”.
For most of history, those that attempted to end those pregnancies were few, and most women eventually accepted the inevitable, and made room at their tables for the newcomer. Those children were treated like any other member of the family, well loved and cared for.
Today’s families often expect to be able to control every aspect of the process:
IF a pregnancy will happen
What to do IF that pregnancy is not desired at that particular time
If other family members object - for example, the future grandmother, who might be expected to take on much of the responsibility for care of a child conceived by a feckless teen/woman.
How to handle things if that pregnancy doesn’t provide a child with an acceptable range of perfection
If that child might not be superior in intelligence or bodily perfection
If that child is not the desired sex
If the father does not respond to the pregnancy with joy, but rather “Get rid of IT!”
If career concerns override a desire for a child
In short, for many people, their love for any child is conditional.
What I’m wondering at this time is - how much of the unmaternal behavior is an artificial interruption of the natural hormonal changes of early pregnancy?
That’s a valid area for study, but one that is NOT likely to be approved for research, due to the heavily Anti-Natal bias in our culture.
Interesting question Linda, but not one that is likely to be studied. Kind of like the impact of a significant amount of female hormones in the water supply.
