The MANY, MANY Failures of Government
Maybe Not Malice, But Rot From the Top Ignoring Problems
When I first heard of this serious failure, I assumed that such a gigantic screw-up HAD to be either Criminal Negligence, or Deliberate Action to endanger President Trump (BTW, ALL other presidents are referred to as President, even after leaving - that’s the normal protocol for all government titles - Ambassador, Secretary, Senator).
But, after reading City Journal’s essay on the attempted assassination, I’m no longer sure.
Even if this was neither deliberate, nor negligence on the part of the field agents, I have to agree that the agency needs a complete overhaul - starting with the leadership. That’s not just the Director, that also includes the people in charge of training, supervision, and day-to-day operations.
Some might say that the leadership had no option other than to go along with directives.
Bull$hit!
If a person is given a clearly improper order, the appropriate thing to do is to question it (preferably in writing, for example, “Did I understand correctly that agents who fail to demonstrate readiness to perform their job must not be written up, but permitted to fail expectations, without consequence?”). Yes, such responses may well get that person summarily re-posted to Idaho or other undesirable assignment, or even lose your job. That’s the price you pay for maintaining your integrity. Yes, that sucks.
But, going along with improper actions, risking people’s lives by complying, and not holding the line imperils your immortal soul. And, if you have a family, makes it hard to look them in the eye.
Short term, going alone is the smart move. Long term, it will kill you, if not bodily, then in the very heart of your being.
