What does it stand for? According to Kim du Toit,
“VUCA stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity and is used to help teams and organisations better prepare for, and manage the risks associated with, uncertain situations.”
In other words, when TSHTF, Danger will lurk under every interaction. Rumors will be flying around like those monkeys in The Wizard of Oz. Few situations will have a quick, simple answer. Very few people, friend, foe, or acquaintance, will present themselves clearly in a way that allows you to make good decisions.
Humans can deal with hard times. We can deal with attacks, hunger, war, and disease. We can even handle complete devastation of our community, as they have in NC and other places affected by the hurricane and the resulting floods.
We have before.
What we are really bad at, is handling ambiguity. Situations that are not clear-cut take the greatest tool on our bodies and minds.
Ask Vietnam vets. They existed in situations that made it hard to distinguish between friendliest and enemies. That uncertainty led to hesitation in shooting scenarios. Or, even harder to deal with, the realization that the person they shot was a kid, or an innocent.
Wars without an outside enemy, only those that share your country, are probably the most likely not to end when the war if officially over. They may grudgingly end open hostilities, but they will continue to seethe with resentment, and be very sensitive to slights. In the USA, it took more than 10 years for the Southern Whites to reconcile themselves to their loss.
How long will it take for today’s Leftists and their supporters to accept Trump’s victory, should it happen?
Maybe by the time they die? Venting their vile hatred the entire time?
