I had an interesting “Not a Discussion, But a Repetition of Statements That Investigating Biden is Whataboutism” yesterday with a family member. The question of investigating Biden and his family came up.
Now, this is one of the sharper members of the family. Someone who, generally, is capable and willing to explain his POV on current events.
Sometimes, he persuades me, or, at least, gets me to rethink or refine my position.
This time, not.
Instead, I dropped out of further engagement on any topic other than the game, settled back for some quiet - well, KIND of quiet - watching the Browns game.
Which we won. In last minute, spectacular fashion.
We in Cleveland are SO pumped.
I’m an occasional social participant in most sports. Willing to root for the home team, not gonna die if they lose, and perfectly happy to engage in the huzzahs should they win.
The only professional sport I follow religiously is baseball. Formerly the Cleveland Indians, now the Cleveland Guardians, I still wear the old jerseys, shirts, and hats. Not fighting against a dead cause, just too cheap to buy new ones to replace functional old garments.
My heirs may have access to them after I die. Hope they get good money for them, should they inherit. That’s assuming that a Woke Overclass hasn’t declared possession worthy of a 10 year stay in the gulag.
But, as I said, I dropped the subject.
Why?
Initially, it was disinclination to argue with someone whose mind, at least on this topic, was closed. With a lock and key.
I’d rather later approach him on an issue that we have some common ground. Remember, as Reagan said,
The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally - not a 20 percent traitor.
So, when dealing with someone who cannot see things from another POV, and is adamant about reciting Dem/Leftist talking points, simply say, “Well, I can certainly see why you say that” or something equally ambiguous, and ask if you can get him a snack while you’re up.
Then, walk away for a short while, and, if the topic has changed to something less inflammatory, join in quietly.
Now, I’m stubborn. Over half Celtic by heritage (with a healthy dose of ornery thanks to the genetics of my WV-born Dad), so it’s hard for me to step away from an argument when I KNOW I’m right.
But, even I know when the opposition is dug into the trenches.
And, that’s the funny thing.
The supporters of Dems/Leftists are on the ropes. They are in cover my head and sag against the ropes for support, and hope the round ends soon.
They really don’t have any strategies, plans, or arguments. They are stuck with Biden and his “VP”, the vapid and incapable Kamala Harris.
They are being reduced to hoping:
For a viable, strong challenger - lots of luck with that, as the bench is creakingly old and chained to a LOT of baggage.
For Biden to decide to quit - which, he cannot do as long as he is under investigation - he NEEDS the protection of the office for he and his family to stay out of jail.
For Biden to take the Long Dirt Nap. Were I Biden, I’d stay away from high places, employ a taster for all consumables, and otherwise watch my back.
That’s sad. Be Replaced, Quit, or Die. The best options the Dems have.
The Progressives and the Left are running on fumes. They have depleted all of their arsenals, and are reduced to throwing rocks, not caring whether they hit. Just doing it, over and over again, because SOME action is better than outright giving up.
I think of it as a sign that it’s over. The Dinosaur of the Left is DONE. The signal just hasn’t reached the brain, and won’t for some time.
