Starting a tradition of shutting off political divisive focus once a week
I started off the morning with the TV blaring commentary and re-caps from last night’s debate. On the web, more of the same.
I felt an undercurrent of irritation all morning. Just made me snappish and difficult.
I decided to make every Wednesday from now on The Day to Turn off Politics, and keep my focus on more important things. Things like:
My personal family finances - we have a lot of mail coming our way, and occasionally a bill gets buried in the detritus. So, filing will be a regular habit to acquire, at least once a week (yes, that isn’t enough, but it’s all I can manage at present, what with juggling family illnesses, business ramp-up for my busy season, getting my home’s mess cleared out, I’ve been overwhelmed).
I’m looking forward to developing some traditions with my husband that we can look forward to - evenings out, special dinners at home, no-TV nights, movie night, and snuggle time. We’ve had to adapt over the last decade to being located in different cities/states much of the time. We’re in the same place, and I’d like to set aside US time.
What is happening that is GOOD - in entertainment, in hobbies, in activities, and local events (which I hope to attend).
How my husband and I are working to improve our health and fitness. His brother’s grave illness scared him into reconsidering what he has been doing. My recurring joint and respiratory issues will be my focus. For each of us, improved nutrition and regular exercise schedules will be important.
Photos that just appeal to me, mostly of nature in my location. I’ve long wanted to up my photography skills, and this will be an incentive.
Here is my first picture. I took it a few weeks ago when we visited a different church in our area. The stained glass reminded me of DNA, which, as retired science teachers, we found appealing.
