That song has been an earworm for the last few days. Say what you will about the depravity of John Phillips, the music of The Mamas & The Papas was something unique and magical.
I’ve decided not to blacklist the music, as Phillip’s survivors deserve to get SOME benefit from their association with him. The lifelong damage he left behind was profound; you might THINK that such a history would put an end to the practice of leaving vulnerable children with drug addicts and sexual thrill-seekers, but, no, the “experts” are still facilitating that with their “tolerance” of alternative lifestyles.
In a more pertinent topic, Jennifer Sey has a not-to-miss piece about WHY Trump won.
Hint: it wasn’t Fascism, bigotry, or inability to process complicated thoughts.
Mark Judge holds the Newly Aware of the Downside of Woke’s feet to the fire.
There will be more of these Woke Quislings over the next few months. They are - quite belatedly - having a Come-to-Jesus moment about the excesses of the Left for many years.
As Judge points out, this is a Fake, designed to re-capture their place at the Influential Kids Table.
Not authentic. Not believable, unless the confessions go deeper, and they do a FULL accounting for their willingness to convict without a trial - say, didn’t The Left USED to think that was a BAD thing?
I’m shocked, SHOCKED to discover that The Professional Ally of The Left may be dissembling. Even mouthing words that she doesn’t for a moment believe are true, all for the sake of professional/career salvation.
Huh. Next thing you’ll tell me is that GOP scandals are hyped with a fervor worthy of Barnum, and that DEM scandals are hidden, and the accusers are smeared and hounded into either recanting or losing their jobs/money/friends/family.
I use social media sparingly. I use FB to catch up on family and friends. XTwitter is for politics, or for promoting my blogposts. Other than that, I’ve stayed away from the rest. My brother is addicted to Instagram/TikTok; I couldn’t be bothered.
I’ve no problem if someone wants to buy electric, ‘smartcar’, or even ditch the car and use public transit/Uber/Lyft/bicycle. I just don’t see the need for government to subsidize those choices.
For those living close to work, amenities, and family, any of the above options may be a better choice. In some cities, the cost of garaging a vehicle is huge, both in money, and time spent transiting from parking to home/job.
But, the minute a family gets bigger than one child, those alternatives are less inviting. And, for the disabled/elderly, not gonna work (I realize that SOME seniors are highly mobile. But even the Active Seniors are just one accident/illness away from needing a transport change).
The extension of vote-counting is long beyond any defensible limits. Saying that it should continue “until EVERY vote is counted” is absurd. No one believes that the practice is anything more than a way to shove phony ballots into the system - which, MIRACULOUSLY, always seems to favor Democrats!
Call it the Quadrennial Miracle of the Lost Ballots!
What WOULD be a miracle is if the ‘newly discovered votes’ EVER benefited the GOP!
And, speaking of Miracles, what would it take to Get Obama Out of Washington?
I’d always thought of Teddy Roosevelt as the very picture of a politician who didn’t know when to get off the stage.
Obama and TR have much in common:
They were relatively young men when elected
They exercised their Executive Power to the fullest - and, in fact, stretched it by a factor of 100. Both did so, bypassing Congress in their eagerness to impose their agendas.
Both found their legacies slipping away.
TR was opposed by his successor, Taft, and even went to the extreme of starting another party - the Bullmoose Party - in a attempt to regain the presidency (which failed).
Obama’s successor (and, some would say, his puppet) quickly showed his complete inability to handle the job. Frankly, he was always a second-rate politician, but his increasing mental deterioration finally led to a Coup-in-all-but-name by his own party. Some say that Biden took his revenge in sabotaging his VP’s campaign; I think she would have tanked anyway, but Biden certainly didn’t help her.
The changes in the Civil Service were promoted by TR, and for reasons that many Trump supporters will find familiar. As an article that was published in The Atlantic in February, 1891, shows:
An Object Lesson in Civil Service Reform
During the last year the National Civil Service Commission has been able to do a piece of work which seems to me to deserve particular attention as an object lesson in practical civil service reform. For the first time since the Commission fairly began operations in 1883, we have succeeded in getting such a number of applicants from the Southern States to enter our examinations that these States have now received their full share of appointments in the departmental service at Washington; and the most gratifying feature about this is that the great bulk of the men and women thus appointed to positions in the government service from these States are politically opposed to the party in power.
Not competency, but raw access to power. That’s the real appeal for the NY GOP politician. And, it’s that toadying to the NY GOP and the awful candidates they put up that led to so many candidate disasters over the last century.
Just a quick excerpt:
We are now in the second decade of a phenomenon previously unknown in American politics. Instead of identifying it, dissidents have devised formulations to avoid naming it, like the deep state or wokeness or DEI, etc. But these are just the adornments of a deracinated regime, and to cast an amorphous leviathan in the role of adversary is to commit to a never-ending and ultimately unwinnable struggle. It is in this space where people lose hope, for it’s a vacuum that engenders the culture of the conspiracy theory—elaborate and colorful accounts of despair explaining that we have no control over our lives, our fate, the future of our families, communities, or our country because of hidden forces that are too big and too entrenched.
The truth is that an American political faction is employing third-world tactics—surveillance, censorship, election interference, political prosecution, and political violence—to put the United States under thumb of a single party led by a man who in his mind has become the people.
And, after reaching this point in writing today’s post, I happened to open Ace of Spades, to read the latest news - Biden/Harris/Obama are on the verge of allowing Ukraine to launch missiles directly at Russia.
Like THAT’S not gonna spark a fight!
It’s gonna be a LONG TIME until the inauguration. Cross your fingers.
The poo slinging as already begun. I just don't think it's going to be as effective as is has been in the past. They need to clean their own houses. It's going to take them a long time to regain their credibility.
Have a fabulous day and week. ♥
