We ordered a new fridge from Home Depot. The old one had developed some issues with the internal fan, and it was only a matter of time until something else went wrong (and, TBH, we are no longer inclined to try to save money with do-it-yourself repairs). So, rather than try to use stopgap measures, we decided to buy new.
We looked a quite a few. My husband was intrigued by the side-by-side, 4 door models (two refrigerated sections above, two freezer sections below). We talked about it over several days, and realized that, with our Nikken water filter and a few ice cube trays, we really didn’t need an icemaker (that adds substantially to the cost).
We ended up with a Haier model, for just under $1000, which is FAR more than we ever paid before (we’ve always hit up the used appliance places, and have had good luck with our purchases). It’s a little smaller than we’re used to, but that’s not a bad thing - it will help keep us from stockpiling food that will go bad.
It was delivered today. We hired a couple of guys in the neighborhood to take the old one out to the back deck, where we will leave it until we find someone who needs it/will buy and pick it up (we’re prepared to price it cheaply, both because of the necessary repair needed, and because we just really want to get it off our hands without paying for removal).
That pretty much killed the morning. We’re still working on moving the food over. And, I’m taking a break now. Feet are killing me.
