It’s complicated. I was reading J. J. Sefton on Ace of Spades today, and he brought that exact question up - with some deserved concern.
Olivia Murray, at American Thinker, tends to agree.
There is a real concern by many conservatives (the ACTUAL conservatives, not the ones that USE that designation to fleece the rubes of money, votes, and hope), that the accelerating influx of people into the Red States is a mixed blessing.
As Murray points out:
. . . We’ve been told that the people fleeing the Democrat strongholds of California, Illinois, and New York are conservatives, but I’ve long argued that that’s not quite the case. As a general rule, these blue refugees fall into one of two camps. They’re either hardcore and impressively empty-headed leftists who can’t understand why homes have become so unaffordable or traffic so bad; or they’re traditional conservative Democrats, who just aren’t radical leftists. But they are not, as a whole, solid and principled constitutionalists, and when they arrive at a place with a functioning society and civic sanity, it provides them with the latitude to still vote Democrat.
Look, fitting into a new culture of Non-Leftists is not simply a matter of adopting the local dress and cuisine, nor learning the distinctions of Y’all, All Y’all, and All Y’all’s (yes, there is a difference). For those moving to Yinzer territory, the locals use Y’uns as opposed to Y’all (the dialect is not strictly limited to Pittsburgh; it includes upper WV and southeast OH).
The IDEAL immigrant would be filled with a burning desire to keep his new state from EVER becoming like that Blue hellhole he and his family escaped from. He would be vigilant to root out signs of Wokeness, excessive government, or indoctrination of his children.
He would become an evangelist for the cause of Making America Great Again, whether or not he supported Trump. He would be for the CAUSE, not the individual temporarily put in a place of trust.
Let’s get realistic - that scenario is simply NOT gonna happen.
Instead, the newcomers would enjoy the greater freedoms, without feeling the need to contribute to the next generation.
Why do I say that?
Because, rather than actively work to make their lives better in a Blue state, they cut and ran.
They DIDN’T speak up at work - they might lose their JOBS!
They DIDN’T speak up at community meetings - people might say mean things to them, egg their homes, or - gasp! - even picket their house!
They DIDN’T speak up when their kids were forced to mouth Leftist platitudes, their daughters forced to shower with ‘Women with Penises’, or their sons be accused of unspeakable sexual assaults.
They DIDN’T run for office, or put their money down on good people who would stick their necks out. They DIDN’T put Non-Leftist signs of support on their lawns for UnApproved Double-Plus UnGood candidates. They DIDN’t show up at the polls to watch, and record the abuses of the voting process. And later testify.
So, no, unless they could produce evidence to the contrary, the Newbs should be assumed to be Leftists/Leftist-Sympathizers (LeftSymps).
Not necessarily BAD people, but, unless they are willing to throw themselves in community-building activities, not someone desirable as a neighbor.
I hear ya. But i had the thought that Cubans who fled Communism and came hear are anti-communist. Not so sure about their kids.
